The Meat of the Matter

Taste: Fresh meat, great selection and also really innovative specialty subs like “Turkey Bacon Ranch” (my fav) and “Club on a Sub.” They steam all of the meats on the spot which makes the cheese melt nicely and all the flavors meld together. Yum!

Presentation: The sandwiches are served in these little red baskets which is cute but can get a little cluttered on the table for folks like us that come in as a family of five. The little napkins leave a little bit to be desired and I find that I make a nice big napkin pile as I eat and clean-up after my kiddos.

Originality: Ok, so it’s just a sandwich place but the steaming puts them a notch above the rest.

Service: They are courteous, helpful for new folks and great with kids. We have gone sometimes during their non-peak hours and have noticed that they can be more busy with clean-up and prep than tending to the in-store customers right away.

Appearance: We have only gone to the Overland Park location and the kids love the big colorful mural on the wall and my husband enjoys being able to watch the sports that they play on the TV sets. With a location like 119th and Metcalf, this place is near everything.

Value: For a sandwich joint, the prices run a little high. Medium subs are about $6 and large $8. Add chips and a drink and you’ve easily spent over $10. Keep the quality in mind, though. We consider it worth the money, but we just wouldn’t go every day because of the price point.

So the next time you feel like a really good sandwich and supporting our real-life heroes, give Firehouse Subs a chance. And let us know when you do!
