Located in the heart of the iconic Country Club Plaza, Kyle and I had been wanting to try out McCormick and Schmick’s since we moved to Kansas City. We finally had a date there last Christmas, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. When you end up checking them out, promise me you’ll save room for their chocolate box? It is to. die. for!
She Sells Seashells
By the Seashore
Taste: McCormick and Schmick’s (M&S) is widely known for its fresh sea fish, delivered and served daily. I don’t eat things from the ocean, but my beloved husband loves the squishy stuff. He said his crab bisque and corvina fish was fabulous and he isn’t one to lie. I loved my filet mignon with wedge salad. Word to the wise: M&S is committed to supporting their local farmers so their menu changes daily depending on what is in season. Oh and the chocolate box, ooooh, the chocolate box! Lots of people go to M&S just for this lovely delight.
Presentation: Everything was a symphony for the eyes. They do well mixing bright veggies with neutral colors and they also pay close attention to detail, for example, my salad fork was chilled and Kyle’s crab bisque was served table side. These are the details that makes M&S several notches above the rest.
Originality: It’s just a great seafood and steak place.
Service: Since we were first timers and this place is ‘spensive, we had a lot of questions for our server. He was gracious and we were quite satisfied with what we got as a result of his helpful suggestions.
Appearance: The only thing I didn’t love about this place is the crowded (and loud) bar that we had to walk through in order to get to our seats. And the booths run so close to the bar that at times, I wasn’t sure if we were in the bar or out of it. Just a little tacky. But everything else was truly pleasant.
Value: It’s seafood and steak in a fine dining atmosphere so you gotta pay. Entrees run around $30 and if you want a side or salad, be prepared to take on another $10 or so.
Restrooms: Clean, elegant and classy. Well done, M&S!
