Dean and Deluca

Ok so Dean and Deluca technically isn’t a restaurant but rather a cozy “gourmet grocery store.”  Sorta like Martha Stewart meets Whole Foods meets William’s Sonoma.  Even then, it still doesn’t do it justice so you’re just going to have to go.  And with only five locations in the U.S., it is a real treat that Dean and Deluca decided to give Kansas City a try.  We hope they are here to stay!

In addition to D&D having gourmet and specialty foods for sale, you can also dig in right at the store at their bakery, butcher, cheese counter, and sandwich or salad bar.  For practical purposes, I will be basing my quality control from my experience at their salad bar.

Some Details For Ya

Taste: Always fresh and lovely, their salad bar is prepped by their chefs behind the counter.  You can choose either from one of their set menu salads or a custom dish of greens.  Either way, I guarantee you, your experience will exceed expectations.  D&D pays close attention to details like the way their veggies are chopped up, the order that they put it all together and the way it is mixed.  God is definitely in the details and it shows with their commitment to give everybody a gourmet experience.

Presentation: Most of the time, presentation is excellent.  Sometimes though, it can be a little hit and miss because it can get pretty crowded for those chefs behind the counter.

Originality: There really isn’t another place like D&D.  Period.

Service: They are quick, friendly and know their food.  A great resource but also not snobby about the quality of their work.

Appearance: Dean & Deluca is primarily a grocery store that happens to have fresh food available for your lunch.  Even though they have seating for that lunch, with the bustle of any successful grocery store, it does not present the most ideal dining experience.  And I’m ok with that.

Value: It’s pretty easy to drop $10 for their salad without flinching an eyelid so just think “gourmet” and you’ll be just about right.

Restrooms: These folks are way classy so they keep the powder rooms as nice as the rest of their store.

In addition to great salads and sandwiches, be sure to check out their catering department for your next big event.  Next time you hit them up, let us know how you liked it!
