What could be better than 20 amazing food trucks in one parking lot for all to enjoy? Other than 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep (so, we have kids…) few things would top this amazing celebration of local eats where everybody is invited to join in the fun.
BTW: We aren’t going to follow our normal format this time because there was just too.much.good.food. to do a 7-point review of each. We’ll just give ya the quick shakedown of it all so that you can mark your calendars for next year.
The Westport Food Truck Festival last night was a food-lovers paradise. Nearly two dozen food trucks crammed lined up on the spacious Backyard of the Beaumont and let me tell you, there was something for everyone. Mexican, Cajun, Moroccan, BBQ, smoothies, cupcakes and some of the most off-the-chain funnel cakes we have ever seen. Admission to the event was $5 for adults and kids 10 and under were free. Since there was so much to choose from, Kyle and I found places that offered smaller portions so that we could try a bigger variety without killing our stomachs or wallets. I gotta admit, we felt a little wild packing up our 3 (yrs) 2 (yrs) and 6 month-old but once we got there, there were lots of other families rocking their double-strollers and the casual atmosphere was perfect for a family outing.
Some of our favs from this event was a (slightly overpriced at $8) meatball sandwich from the “Magical Meatball Tour,” but my oh my, it was tasty. As a die-hard Mexican food fan, I had to hit up all the Mexican places while I still had an empty stomach. Los Tules Mexican had some truly-tasty tamales at rock bottom prices. If they were the only ones there, we would have piled high the food for all 5 of us and probably not even spent $10. (Another Mexican place I found wasn’t a food truck but located near the action- Cancun Fiesta Fresh. Their street tacos exceeded my expectations so be looking for a full blog post about them in the future.) After all that (amazing) greasy stuff, I needed a healthy break and hit up CoffeeCakeKC for a fresh smoothie. They are world-famous for their cupcakes but they were out (wa wa wa) but I didn’t feel like a cupcake anyway and the smoothie was a delicious break from the heavy food.
After our healthy break, we got in line for the Funnel Cake Truck and the hot, fresh, amazing funnel cake was well-worth the 30 minute wait in line. Sheesh that place was popular but now we know why. Not only do they have amazing funnel cakes, they also serve (ready for this?) deep fried Oreos, snickers or twinkles. Where else can you get such wildly-tasty eats?
